Cross River adds RLUSD payments to its banking core

As banks connect blockchain settlement with established payment rails, Cross River Bank said on October 15 that it is integrating Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin into its Core Operating System, with XRP Ledger transactions available through a single API. The bank’s announcement says the service supports movement between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, cross-border payments and treasury transfers. The integration gives fintechs access to an onchain settlement rail through the same banking platform they use for conventional payments.

How will fintechs access RLUSD through Cross River?

Cross River says customers can access RLUSD through one API connection in its proprietary Core Operating System, or COS, without deploying their own blockchain infrastructure. The bank describes COS as an integration layer between regulated financial services and blockchain payment networks.

Through the partnership, RLUSD becomes an additional payment rail alongside ACH, wires and real-time payments. Cross River says fintechs can move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD and settle cross-border payments and treasury movement around the clock. Its announcement presents the setup as a way for issuers and acquirers to settle intraday and reduce settlement latency.

What does the XRP Ledger add to the payment setup?

RLUSD transactions in this integration are supported on the XRP Ledger, a public blockchain. Cross River says the ledger processes transactions in three to five seconds at a fraction of a cent and operates 24 hours a day. The bank cites more than $1.3 trillion in value settled on the XRPL to date.

Those figures describe the network’s stated capacity and history; Cross River did not disclose transaction volumes or named customers for the new service. The announcement also does not specify how individual payments will be routed between the stablecoin and traditional rails. It says the integration combines RLUSD on the XRPL with Cross River’s existing payment technology, allowing businesses to use either within its platform.

Where is the integration available?

Cross River says RLUSD has a market capitalization above $2.5 billion, with more than $1 billion issued on the XRPL. The bank frames the integration as an expansion of its stablecoin capabilities and says the service is currently available only in limited states; it did not name the states in its announcement.

Adam Goller, Cross River’s head of fintech banking, said the partnership is intended to let businesses move money across borders without relying on several providers. RippleX senior vice-president Markus Infanger said the aim is to make stablecoins part of the banking infrastructure businesses already use. The announcement sets out the product’s intended payment paths, while leaving customer uptake, pricing and processed volumes undisclosed.
